E’ passato un po’ di tempo dal mio ultimo post sull’ultimo mio viaggio in Alaska, è giunta l’ora di aggiornarvi!
Vi ho lasciati a Vancouver, dopo la lunga passeggiata al Stanley Park.
Il 29/8 inizia l’avventura in Alaska: io e il mio fidanzato ci dirigiamo al Canada Place e, dopo lunghi controlli alla dogana Canadese e USA, ci imbarchiamo sulla MS Volendam della Holland America Line.
Iniziamo a goderci la nostra prima esperienza in crociera, scattando foto dello skyline di Vancouver mentre la nave si allontana dal porto.
Il primo giorno è di completa navigazione, lungo la splendida costa dell’Inside Passage che, in prima battura comprende i territori Canadesi del Prince Rupert e dei Northwest Territories. Il mare è piuttosto calmo, quindi abbiamo la possibilità di vedere delfini, orche e foche seguire la scia della nostra nave!
La prima tappa Alaskana è Juneau, la capitale. Non aspettatevi una grande metropoli: il porto si trova in un’insenatura costeggiata da case, palafitte, attracchi per imbarcazioni private e piccole piste per atterraggio. Arriviamo a Juneau in una giornata piovosa ma, come abbiamo avuto modo di constatare, il tempo cambia molto velocemente. Il tempo di dirigerci verso il Mendenhall Glacier e il sole torna a risplendere tra le nuvole!
Il Mendenhall Glacier, originariamente chiamato Sitaantaagu (ghiacciaio dietro la città) in lingua Tlingit , si estende dietro il lago Mendenhall ed è adiacente alle Nugget Fall. Dal centro informazioni turistiche, dove si può vedere un video introduttivo alla regione e alla storia del parco, vi sono due percorsi principali da seguire per avere una panoramica generale del paesaggio. Noi scegliamo il percorso panoramico sul ghiacciaio e successivamente la deviazione verso le Nugget Falls. Lungo il percorso, si può ammirare lo splendido bosco di cedri rossi e conifere che, come in Canada, creano dei paesaggi veramente fiabeschi. Osservando attentamente le cime degli alberi, abbiamo avuto la fortuna di vedere alcuni porcospini – intenti a riposarsi e a controllare i passanti lungo il percorso.
Arrivati alle Nugget Falls, alte 85 metri e create dal salto del Nugget Creek, la vista si apre su un vasto panorama sul Ghiacciaio Mendenhall e sull’omonimo lago. Fin dai primi assaggi di Alaska, ci rendiamo subito conto di essere immersi nella cultura e nelle tradizioni dei Nativi Tlingit – con cui durante il viaggio abbiamo avuto modo di chiacchierare e approfondire la conoscenza delle loro tradizioni durante ogni singola tappa del nostro viaggio. Questo aspetto è stato molto interessante, poiché in altri luoghi degli Stati Uniti la presenza nativa è stata circoscritta a veri e propri ghetti, dove la loro espressione è fortemente limitata. In Alaska, perlomeno alla mia percezione, i Nativi hanno potuto preservare le loro tradizioni e la connessione alla natura – che qui è pressoché incontaminata.
Rientrati a Juneau, una tappa caratteristica in questa città è rappresentata dal Red Dog Saloon – emblema del ruolo centrale che l’Alaska ha avuto ai tempi dei cercatori d’oro. Il saloon è passato sotto la gestione di alcune famiglie nel corso degli anni, ma l’intento di queste ultime è sempre stato mantenere l’integrità e l’autenticità del luogo come in origine. Di conseguenza, il saloon è popolato fin dal pomeriggio sia dagli abitanti di Juneau, sia dai turisti nella stagione estiva e l’atmosfera è molto simile a quella che potenzialmente avremmo vissuto alla fine del 1800.
Dopo questa prima giornata alla scoperta della capitale, rientriamo sulla MS Volendam e ci godiamo uno splendido tramonto nel fiordo. Si riparte per la prossima meta, Skagway!

Hello everyone! It's been a while since my last post on my last trip to Alaska, it's time to give updates! I left you in Vancouver after the long walk around Stanley Park. On 29/8 the adventure to Alaksa officially begins: me and my boyfriend headed to Canada Place and, after long checks at the Canadian and US customs, we embark on the MS Volendam - Holland America Line. We begin to enjoy our first cruise experience, taking photos of the Vancouver skyline as the ship moves away from the harbor. The first day is of complete navigation, along the splendid Inside Passage coastline which, in the first blast, includes the Canadian territories of Prince Rupert and the Northwest Territories. The sea is quite calm, so we have the chance to see dolphins, killer whales and seals follow the wake of our ship! The first Alaskan stop s Juneau, the capital. Do not expect a big metropolis: the port is located in an inlet flanked by houses, piles, moorings for private boats and small runways for landing. We arrive in Juneau on a rainy day but, as we have seen during the week, the weather changes very quickly. Just the time to reach Mendenhall Glacier area and the sun heads up between the clouds! Mendenhall Glacier, originally called Sitaantaagu (glacier behind the city) in the Tlingit language, extends behind Lake Mendenhall and is adjacent to the Nugget Fall. From the tourist information center, where you can see an introductory video of the region and the history of the park, there are two main routes to follow to get a general overview of the landscape. We choose the scenic route on the glacier and then the detour to the Nugget Falls. Along the way, you can admire the beautiful forest of red cedars and conifers that, as in Canada, create truly fairytale landscapes. Looking carefully at the tops of the trees, we were lucky enough to see some porcupines - intent on resting and checking passersby along the way. Arriving to Nugget Falls, 85 meters high and created by the jump of the Nugget Creek, the view opens onto a vast panorama of the Mendenhall Glacier and its lake. Since the first looks, we immediately realize that we are immersed in the culture and traditions of the Native Tlingit - with whom we had the opportunity to chat and deepen the knowledge of their traditions during each single stop of our journey. This aspect has been very interesting, since in other places of the US the native presence has been limited to actual ghettos, where their expression is strongly limited and shut up. In Alaska, at least to my perception, the Natives have been able to preserve their traditions and the connection to nature - which is almost uncontaminated here.
Back to Juneau, we stop at a very characteristic spot of the town - the Red Dog Saloon. This place is the emblem of the central role that Alaska played at the time of the gold diggers. Over the years, the saloon has gone under the management of several families, but its integrity and authenticity have been preserved. As a result, the saloon is crowded with people, both tourists and locals, especially duringsummer. The atmosphere is very similar to what we would have experienced in the late 1800s, so this place is surely worth a visit.
After this first day to discover the capital, we return to the MS Volendam and enjoy a tasteful dinner in front of a stunning sunset on the fjord. We leave for the next destination, Skagway!

Я оставил вас в Ванкувере после долгой прогулки про Стэнли-Парк.
На 29/8 начинается приключение на Аляске : я моего бойфренда мы отправляемся в Канаду, и после долгих проверокканадской и американской обычаев мы отправляемся в MS Volendam of Holland America Line.
Мы начинаем наслаждаться нашим первым круизным опытом, фотографируя панораму Ванкувера, когда корабль уходит из гавани.
Первый день - полная навигация по великолепной береговой линии Внутри Пассажа, которая в первый взрыв включает в себяканадские территории принца Руперта и Северо-Западных Tерриторий. Море довольно спокойно, поэтому у нас есть шанс увидеть дельфинов, косаток и тюленей, следуя вслед за нашим кораблем!
Первая остановка - Джуно, столица. Не ожидайте большой мегаполис: порт расположен во входе, окруженном домами, сваями, причалами для частных судов и небольшими взлетно-посадочными полосами для посадки. Мы прибываем в Джуно в дождливый день, но, как мы видели, погода меняется очень быстро. Время, чтобы отправиться на ледник Менденхолла, и солнце возвращается!
Ледник Менденхолла, первоначально называвшийся Sitaantaagu (“ледник позади города”) на языке Тлинкита, простирается за озеро Менденхолл и примыкает к Nugget Fall . Из туристического информационного центра, где вы можете увидеть вступительный видеоролик региона и историю парка, есть два основных маршрута для получения общего обзора ландшафта. Мы выбираем живописный маршрут на леднике, а затем обход в водопад Nugget Fall. По пути вы можете полюбоваться прекрасным лесом красных кедров и хвойных деревьев, которые, как и в Канаде, создают поистине сказочные пейзажи. Присмотревшись к вершинам деревьев, нам посчастливилось увидеть некоторых дикобразов - намерение отдыхать и проверять прохожих по пути.
Прибывая в водопад Наггетт, высотой 85 метров и созданный скачком Скалы Неггет, вид открывается на обширную панораму ледника Менденхолла и одноименного озера. После первых шагов на Аляске мы сразу же осознаем, что мы погружены в культуру и традиции родного тлингита, с которыми во время поездки мы имели возможность поболтать и углубить знания своих традиций на каждом этапе нашего путешествия. Этот аспект был очень интересным, поскольку в других местах в Соединенных Штатах присутствие Родных было ограничено реальными гетто, где их выражение сильно ограничено. На Аляске, по крайней мере и до моего восприятия, туземцы смогли сохранить свои традиции и связь с природой, которая здесь почти не загрязнена.
Назад в Джуно, характерная остановка в этом городе представлена Красной Собачьей Салун - эмблемой центральной роли,которую Аляска имела во времена золотоискателей. За эти годы салон управлялся некоторыми семьями, но цель последнегозаключалась в том, чтобы сохранить целостность и подлинность этого места, как изначально. Cалун заселен после обеда какжителями Джуно, так и туристами в летний сезон, и атмосфера очень похожа на то, что мы бы испытали в конце 1800-х годов.
После этого первого дня, чтобы открыть столицу, мы возвращаемся в MS Volendam и наслаждаемся прекрасным закатом во фьорде. Мы отправляемся в следующий этап, Скагуэй!
