Ciao a tutti!
Come da recente sondaggio su Instagram, della Scozia vi attraggono maggiormente le citta’ - su tutti Edimburgo. Eccovi quindi accontentati, con un post dedicato alla capitale Scozzese.
Edimburgo e’ l’ultima tappa del mio viaggio alla scoperta della Scozia e, devo dire, rapprensenta un’affascinante conclusione di un percorso magico. Iniziamo a conoscere Edimburgo dal suo cuore pulsante, la Royal Mile – pittoresca via che collega la residenza reale di Holyrood House al Castello di Edimburgo. Definita la via piu’ bella del mondo, qui si possono incontrare variopinte palazzine, cortile nascosti in tipico stile scozzese e botteghe, dove poter assaggiare I prodotti tipici locali. Si dice che proprio in un pub della Royal Mile, J.K. Rowling abbia iniziato a comporre la saga di Harry Potter – non a caso a tema magico!
Adiacente alla Royal Mile si trova Il quartiere Real Mary King’s Close, dove ora si trovano le City Chamber, costruito letteralmente sui cadaveri delle persone colpite dalla peste. Questo ricorda quanto successo per la costruzione della citta’ di San Pietroburgo e di cui parlo nei miei post letterari sulla sezione dedicata del blog. Lungo la Royal Mile si trova la Cattedrale della citta’ , St. Giles (o High Kirk of Edinburgh).
Percorsa la Royal Mile, svetta il Castello di Edimburgo – che osserva la citta’ e che rappresenta il culmine dell’antico insediamento murato. Un ricordo delle mura della citta’ si puo’ vedere ad High Street, dove alcuni sampietrini dorati indicano l’antico tracciato della cinta. In questo castello risiedette anche Maria Stuarda - fatto interessante se, come me, avete amato la serie “Reign” 😊 Vale la pena dedicare un paio d’ore alla visita del castello, per approfondire la conoscenza della storia scozzese, cosi’ fitta di avvenimenti.
Terminata la passeggiata al castello, tappa d’obbligo e’ il Grassmarket – percorrendo Victoria Street. Questa piazza variopinta e piena di vita e’ da sempre un luogo di ritrovo per gli scozzesi e non – per mangiare qualcosa o per bere una birra in Compagnia.
Non tutti concordano con me, ma io suggerisco assolutamente una visita alla Cappella di Rosslyn, poco distante da Edimburgo. Se siete alla ricerca del mistero e di esperienze fuori dal comune, Rosslyn e’ decisamente un sito da visitare. Fondata nel 1446 da Sir William St Clair, la Cappella e’ decorate minuziosamente ed e’ proprio dai dettagli collegati alla massoneria che si rimane letteralmente senza parole. Alcuni di questi intarsi sono enigmatici, dal momento che raffigurano piante (mais, trillium e aloe vera) che all’epoca non erano ancora state “scoperte” in America del Nord e personaggi del tutto singolari come l’uomo verde, simbolo di crescita e fertilita’. Tra le decorazioni, inoltre, si scorge una figura femminile – in viaggio su un cammello insieme ad altri uomini. Anche da questa figura parte la leggenda che vede la Cappella di Rosslyn come il luogo custode del Santo Graal – che, secondo alcune teorie, sarebbe proprio una donna – la figlia di Gesu’. I cavalieri templari avrebbero portato qui Maria Maddalena incinta, per dare alla luce la figlia di Gesu’ in un luogo protetto e sicuro. Questa leggenda e’ stata riportata in auge dal romanzo “Il Codice Da Vinci” e dall’ultima scena dell’omonimo film – che, secondo me, vale la pena assaporare di persona se si passa da qui. All’interno della Cappella di Rosslyn e’ assolutamente vietato scattare foto (motivo in piu’ per essere coinvolti in quest’aura misteriosa) e il tempo di visita vola se si cerca di ricostruire il filo logico e temporale di tutte le sculture (con l’aiuto di una guida e’ decisamente meglio!).

As per the recent Instagram survey, Scotland's cities attract you the most - Edinburgh above all. So here you have a post about the Scottish capital and its surroundings.
Edinburgh is my last stop in Scotland and, I must say, represents a fascinating conclusion to the magical journey I did here. We get to know Edinburgh from its beating heart, the Royal Mile - a picturesque street that connects the royal residence of Holyrood House to the Edinburgh Castle. Called the most beautiful street in the world, here you can see colorful buildings, hidden courtyards in typical Scottish style and shops, where you can taste local products and liquors. It is said that in a Royal Mile pub, J.K. Rowling has started composing the Harry Potter saga - not surprisingly magical-themed!
Adjacent to the Royal Mile is the Real Mary King's Close neighborhood, where now stand the City Chambers, built literally on the corpses of people affected by the plague. This recalls what happened during construction of the city of St. Petersburg - which I wrote about in my literary posts of the blog. Along the Royal Mile is located the city's Cathedral, St. Giles (or High Kirk of Edinburgh).
After walking the Royal Mile, we come across the Edinburgh Castle - which overlooks the city and represents the culmination of the ancient walled settlement. A reminder of the city walls can be seen in High Street, where some golden cobblestones indicate the ancient layout of the wall. Mary Stuart “Queen of Scots” stayed in this castle too - an interesting fact if, like me, you loved the series "Reign" 😊 . It is worth dedicating a couple of hours to visit the castle, to deepen your knowledge of Scottish history, so full of events .
After the walk in the castle area, going down Victoria Street, a stop at the Grassmarket is a must. This colorful and lively square has always been a meeting place for Scots and tourists - to eat something or to enjoy a beer in company.
Not everyone agrees with me, but I absolutely suggest a visit to the Rosslyn Chapel, not far from Edinburgh. If you are looking for mystery and unusual experiences, Rosslyn is definitely check in here. Founded in 1446 by Sir William St Clair, the chapel is meticulously decorated and namely its details connected to the masonry leave us speechless. Some of these inlays are enigmatic, since they depict plants (corn, trillium and aloe vera) that at the time had not been "discovered" in North America yet. Moreover, you are surrounded by unique characters such as the green man, a symbol of growth and fertility. The decorations include a female figure - traveling on a camel together with other men. From this figure starts the legend that sees the Rosslyn Chapel as the final home of the Holy Grail - which, according to some theories, would be Jesus’ daughter. The Templars would have brought a pregnant Mary Magdalene here, to give birth to Jesus' daughter in a protected and safe place. This legend was brought back into vogue by the novel "The Da Vinci Code" and by the last scene of the namesake film. In my opinion, is worth tasting this atmosphere in person if you are visiting Edinburgh. Inside the Rosslyn Chapel it is absolutely forbidden to take photos (more reason to be involved in this mysterious aura) and the visit time flies if you try to reconstruct the logical and temporal thread of all the sculptures (with the help from a guide it is much better!).
With Rosslyn experience I greet you and I hope these suggestions can be useful for a future visit to Edinburgh and its surroundings.

Эдинбург - моя последняя остановка в Шотландии и представляет собой увлекательное завершение волшебного путешествия, которое я совершилa здесь. Мы знакомимся с Эдинбургом по его бьющемуся сердцу, Королевской Миле - живописной улице, соединяющей королевскую резиденцию Холируд-Хаус с Эдинбургским замком. Названная самой красивой улицей в мире, здесь вы можете увидеть красочные здания, скрытые внутренние дворики в типичном шотландском стиле и магазины, где можно попробовать местные продукты и ликеры. Говорят, что в пабе в Королевской Миле J.K. Роулинг начала сочинять сагу о Гарри Поттере - не удивительно волшебную тему!
Рядом с Королевской Милию находится район Реал Мэри Кинг, где сейчас стоят Городские Палаты, построенные буквально на трупах людей, пострадавших от чумы. Это напоминает о том, что произошло во время строительства города Санкт-Петербурга, о котором я написала в своих литературных публикациях в блоге. Вдоль Королевской Мили расположен городской собор Святого Джайлса (или Высокий Кирк Эдинбурга).
Пройдя Королевскую милю, мы сталкиваемся с Эдинбургским замком, который выходит на город и является кульминацией древнего поселения, обнесенного стеной. Напоминание о городских стенах можно увидеть на Хай-стрит, где некоторые золотые булыжники указывают на древнюю планировку стены. Мэри Стюарт «Королева шотландцев» тоже осталась в этом замке - интересный факт, если, как и я, вам понравился сериал «Царствование» 😊. Стоит посвятить пару часов посещению замка, углублению ваших знаний о шотландской истории, столь насыщенной событиями.
После прогулки по замковой зоне, идущей по улице Виктория, остановка на Грассмаркет обязательна. Эта красочная и оживленная площадь всегда была местом встречи шотландцев и туристов - чтобы поесть или выпить пива в компании.
Не все согласны со мной, но я абсолютно советую посетить часовню Росслин, недалеко от Эдинбурга. Если вы ищете загадки и необычные впечатления, в Росслинe определенно отметится. Основанa в 1446 году сэром Уильямом Сен-Клером, часовня тщательно украшена, и именно ее детали, связанные с кладкой, лишают нас дара речи. Некоторые из этих вкладок являются загадочными, поскольку на них изображены растения (кукуруза, триллиум и алоэ вера), которые в то время еще не были «открыты» в Северной Америке. Более того, мы окружены уникальными персонажами, такими как зеленый человек, символ роста и плодородия. Украшения включают женскую фигуру - путешествующий на верблюде вместе с другими мужчинами. Из этой фигуры начинается легенда, которая рассматривает часовню Росслин как последний дом Святого Грааля, который, согласно некоторым теориям, будет дочерью Иисуса. Тамплиеры привели бы сюда беременную Марию Магдалину, чтобы родить дочь Иисуса в защищенном и безопасном месте. Эта легенда была возвращена в моду романом «Код да Винчи» и последней сценой одноименного фильма. На мой взгляд, стоит попробовать эту атмосферу лично, если вы посещаете Эдинбург. Внутри часовни Росслин категорически запрещено фотографировать (больше причин быть вовлеченным в эту таинственную ауру), и время посещения летит, если вы пытаетесь восстановить логическую и временную нить всех скульптур (с помощью гида это намного лучше!).
