Ciao a tutti! La seconda tappa in Alaska è stata la graziosa cittadina di Skagway, in pieno stile western. Arriviamo a Skagway sempre sotto le nuvole e un po’ di pioggia, ma in questo caso il clima rende la visita ancora più suggestiva. Di prima mattina, ci incamminiamo dal piccolo porto al centro, composto da edifici colorati che sono stati restaurati così come apparivano ad inizio 1900. Skagway è situata nella regione del Klondike e, ricordando Zio Paperone, capiamo subito che anche qui l’influenza dei cercatori d’oro è stata significativa. Non contenti della colazione a bordo, proviamo subito una specialità locale: il Fry Bread o Alajuks. Si tratta di un retaggio delle famiglie Native, che hanno ideato questa specialità in versione dolce e salata. L’Alajuks è una frittella (enorme) non troppo lievitata, in questa versione spolverizzata con zucchero e cannella. Dopo questa bomba calorica, continuiamo la nostra visita alla stazione storica che collega questa parte di costa allo Yukon Canadese. Ancora oggi, il treno a vapore dell’epoca collega le zone interne a Skagway ed è molto suggestivo sentire il suo fischio mentre arriva dalle montagne. Non sono solo i cercatori d’oro ad aver contribuito alla fioritura di Skagway ma anche, e soprattutto, le prostitute del Red Onion Saloon. All’epoca, le ragazze della città hanno sfruttato la presenza dei cercatori d’oro per iniziare un vero e proprio business che ha portato ingenti introiti alla cittadina. Tutto questo però non deve far pensare che le ragazze abbiano vissuto una vita facile : spesso le prostitute venivano additate, maltrattate e perseguitate – ma se rientravano sotto la protezione dei saloon potevano godere di maggiori diritti e considerazione. Questo mondo ci è stato fatto scoprire, in maniera divertente e goliardica, dalla nostra guida locale che, vestita come una delle ragazze del saloon, ci ha guidato per le vie della cittadina raccontandoci spaccati di vita dell’epoca. Ho assolutamente adorato questa visita guidata, in quanto è stato un modo insolito e divertente per scoprire gli angoli più nascosti di Skagway e affrontare temi storici e sociali interessanti. Terminata la visita guidata, abbiamo proseguito la scoperta di Skagway autonomamente, visitando la storica stazione ferroviaria e i saloon – adibiti come all’epoca della loro effettiva apertura e con indicazione di informazioni storiche legate ad essi. Dopo aver acquistato dell’ottimo salmone affumicato e alcune confezioni di tisane ai frutti di bosco, prodotti tipici dell’Alaska, possiamo ritornare a bordo. Nel tardo pomeriggio la nostra nave è poi ripartita verso la tappa decisamente più suggestiva a livello naturalistico: la Glacier Bay. Hello everyone! The second stop in Alaska was the pretty town of Skagway, in full western style. We arrived in Skagway under am cloudy sky, but in this case this weather makes the visit even more impressive. In the early morning, we walk from the small port to the center, made up of colorful buildings that were restored as they appeared at the beginning of 1900. Skagway is located in the Klondike region and, remembering Uncle Scrooge, we immediately understand that here the influence of the seekers of gold was significant. Even if we had breakfast on board, we couldn’t help trying a local specialty: the Fry Bread or Alajuks. This is a legacy of the Native families, who have created this treat both in a sweet and a savory version. The Alajuks is a huge pancake not too leavened, in this version sprinkled with sugar and cinnamon. After this “bomb” , we continue our visit to the historic station that connects this part of the coast to the Canadian Yukon. Even today, the steam train of the time connects the inland areas of Skagway and it is very suggestive to hear his whistle as it comes from the mountains. It is not only the gold diggers who have contributed to the flowering of Skagway but also, and above all, the Red Onion Saloon prostitutes. At the time, the girls of the city took advantage of the presence of gold diggers to start a real business that has brought a high revenue to the town. All this, however, should not lead to think that the girls lived an easy life: prostitutes were often pointed out, mistreated and persecuted - but if they came under the saloon protection they could enjoy more rights and consideration than the hidden ones . Our local guide who, dressed as one of the girls of the saloon, guided us through the streets of the town, telling us stories of life at the time. I absolutely loved this guided tour, as it was an unusual and fun way to discover the most typical corners of Skagway and talk about interesting historical and social issues. After the guided tour, we continued the walk through Skagway by ourselves, visiting the historic spots and the saloons. After buying some excellent smoked salmon and some teas of wild berries, typical products of Alaska, we can return on board. In the late afternoon our ship then set off towards the more enchanting naturalistic attraction of this trip: the Glacier Bay. Привет всем! После экскурсии мы продолжили открытие Скагуэй автономно, посетили исторический железнодорожный вокзал и салоны - После покупки отличного копченого лосося и некоторых чаев из диких ягод, типичных продуктов Аляски, мы можем вернуться на борт. В конце дня наш корабль отправился В Залив Ледника.
